What are the steps involved?
The first thing you will need to do is register as a user of our self-distribution service. This step is quick and absolutely free. Once you have registered, you can order your first project. This step requires you to complete basic metadata for your film, pick the territories you want to sell in and give us information about the assets you are going to send us. If you have all of the information readily available this step takes about 15 minutes. Before submitting you’ll be asked to agree to our contract and terms of service. Once the project has been submitted, you will receive an estimate for the work to be done. Once the estimate is approved you will receive a link to our upload software, where you’ll be able to start sending files!
What format is required for materials?
Although using compressor to create an iTunes package is our preferred format for film & TV, we accept assets in a variety of other formats. Click here for full details.
What are the minimum requirements for getting my film up on the store?

How much does it cost and why?
The cost to deliver a film of no more than 150 minutes in length is $945 for the first platform. For longer features, add $30 for every 15-minute block. Each additional platform is $195 per platform for a feature film. Our service includes:
- An initial spot check and logging of all materials: video, audio, timed text assets, metadata and poster art.
- A full manual quality control review of all video elements, primary audio streams, and detailed spot checks of any secondary audio streams, subtitle and caption streams. This QC process is required by the platforms and ensures your film goes live in a timely fashion.
- Delivery to the platform and follow up on any issues flagged by platform(s).
- One full year of sales reporting and payments
- All materials ingested by Juice are archived in our Digital Asset Management system at no additional cost to the client.
The cost to upload an album to iTunes is $40 per album. This fee includes upload, access to our sales tracking dashboard and full monthly royalty reporting.
How often do I get paid?
Juice reports monthly so you get paid faster. We send you your money within 30 days of the end of each calendar month.
What percentage of the overall revenue generated on the store do I get?
The platforms retain 30%-40% of all sales revenue from their store. The rest comes back to you! Juice does not take any percentage of your revenue on film & TV content.
For albums, singles, deluxe albums and music videos, Juice retains 9% of the royalties earned.
What happens if my film is rejected by Juice or the platform?
This depends on the stage at which the title is rejected*:
- Logging – If we find an issue at the logging stage that can be corrected, you will have to fix the problem and resubmit your materials, at no additional cost.
- Quality Control – If we find issues that can be corrected during the QC process we will correct minor issues at no charge**. For more significant issues, a Client Services rep will be in touch to discuss pricing and options. If we find that an issue is not correctable during QC, we will issue a refund minus an administrative fee of $500, and arrange for the pick up or return of your material.
- If your content passes our QC process but fails at the delivery stage or is rejected by Apple, we will provide you with a full refund.
* Content that is rejected for reasons clearly outlined in our QC checklist will not be refunded under any circumstance.
** What constitutes a minor issue is entirely at the discretion of Juice. If we can make all the required corrections in 20 minutes or less we consider it a minor issue.
Kindly note music products are not eligible for refunds.
I would like to make changes to my contract before agreeing to it. Can it be modified?
The contract is a template based on the terms and conditions agreed to between Juice and iTunes. The terms are standard and cannot be modified.
Can I submit a short film?
Yes, Juice also accepts short films. A film that has a runtime less than 40 minutes is considered a short film. Currently, only iTunes, Google Play and Amazon accept short film content.
I’d like to make my content available worldwide, what is required?
Juice offers worldwide access across several platforms. Once you have created your online account, you will be sent a full list of platforms and territories that you can access via Juice, along with the requirements for each territory. You can add territories after the film has gone live as well (additional fees may apply).
What does localization mean?
Most territories will require localization of your content. Localization refers to closed captioning, subtitling and/or ratings required for distribution in a given territory.
Some aggregators charge a fee for access to other territories. Does Juice charge more for this service?
No, Juice does not charge a fee per territory, but rather per delivery. We don’t ding you for work that’s easy! Once a subtitle file has been added to a package, this package can then be made available in any territory where the package satisfies the localization requirements. For example, if we deliver your film to iTunes for Canada, this same file can also be used for Ireland without any additional cost to you.
Can Juice create subtitles or closed captioning for my film?
Yes, subtitles and closed captions can be created through Juice. Please contact us for a quote.
Do I need a rating to make my film available on the platforms?
Ratings are not required for most territories, including the US and Canada. The main countries that require ratings are: United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brunei, India, and South Africa. Rating requirements vary by platform.
You can read more about the processes to have content rated by individual boards on these websites:
What platforms can I access in addition to iTunes?
Additional platforms available include Google Play, Xbox, Amazon, the Sony Entertainment Network, Hoopla, Steam and Vimeo On Demand. Juice also offers access to cable VOD platforms in the US and Canada. Once you have delivered to one platform, we can deliver your content to other platforms at a reduced rate. Netflix is also available for select titles.
Music content is currently only delivered to iTunes.
When will my content go live?
Once we have received all final assets for your project, turnaround to get the content live on the platform(s) is within 60 days for film and TV and 30 days for music. You can set a specific release date if you wish, but please keep our turnaround times in mind. Please note that turnaround times may be longer leading up to major holidays such as Christmas due to volume at the platform(s).
Does Juice take care of marketing or promotions for my film?
Juice communicates with the platforms on upcoming titles, but marketing is left to the responsibility of the content owner. With 100% of the royalties flowing back to you, you also reap 100% of the benefits of your marketing efforts!
